South Korea Spring Break - day two

We started off the first day of the trip making arraignments for our tours the rest of the week.  Then, we set out on the subway to head to this area of town that had old style houses mixed in with normal ones.  It was a walking tour and was fun to sort of wander around to see what we could stumble on.

Inside the subway, we saw these gas masks and initially thought they were used in case there was an attack of some sort.  Turns out it's nothing that crazy, just supposed to be used in case there is a fire.

Getting our bearings after emerging from the subway.

I think this building was called Constitution building.

We thought this restaurant was interesting.

Below are some of the streets we walked around.

I loved the look of this house.

These were the first lanterns we encountered during the trip, but not the last.  Jae explained that Buddha's birthday is in May and that the temples are setting up for the celebration.  Families can buy these lanterns and have a message put on them.

We stumbled on a wine tasting.  I called it wine, but it's rice wine, and I believe its called shogun.   The guys went in first and tried the free sample.  Then, they also did a $10 tasting flight with 3 samples.  The woman went in for the free sample next, but that was all we needed to try.  Did I mention this was about 10:30 in the AM.  :)

Here's what we did while they were inside.  Snacks and video games :)

This tree was blooming next to us and was beautiful.

Brock getting a little bored of the stroller.

Loved this door and this street.

I took this pictures and then was promptly yelled at by a lady.  Oops, apparently you can pay to tour this house...Sorry.

We stumbled on these men making a type of candy.  It was really interesting to see.  They started our with a hard disk of honey and then a big bowl of corn starch I think.  Anyway, the guy started pulling and twisting the disk until it turned into thousands of little strings of honey.  Then, the next guy filled a bundle with sesame seeds and either almonds or chocolate.  I sampled the almond and we bought Chocolate.  The honey strings sort of melted in your mouth, then you had a crunchy bit to chew up.  Not a bad snack.

About this time we decided to split up.  The guys took the kids back to the hotel for naps and playing, while the women stayed out to shop a bit.  We kept seeing people with these snacks, so we decided to get one.  Turns our the outside is sort of like a captain crunch tasking ice cream cone and the inside was filled with ice cream.

We went for Korean BBQ for dinner - It was delicious!

Brandon with the hot coals.

Some of the side dishes.  Kimchi, pickled radish, garlic, tofu, pickled cabbage, a cabbage salad that was similar to cole slaw and mushrooms.  Plus, a salt mixture and a red paste sauce.  So, you take a lettuce leaf and fill it with these toppings and some meat that was cooked on the hot coals.

Terrible picture of me chewing, but you can see the meat cooking in this one.

We got a chuckle out of this restaurant.   We stopped for ice cream on the way home and some of us split off to go to the Seoul Tower. We took Brock back to the hotel to get some rest.
