Miyagi and Hamahiga islands

It's been a quiet few weeks around our house.  Brandon was back in the states for a couple of weeks and then rainy season hit.  We've heard a lot about rainy season, but no one could really tell us when, or for how long, but it's officially here and it stinks!  Last week it rained every day, sometimes hard, sometimes not, but almost always something.  Twice I was caught out in a sudden downpour and was completely soaked.   I am glad that we brought rain boots and rain coats and heavy duty umbrellas, but no amount of preparedness can really prepare you.

So, this weekend was the first break in the weather we've seen in awhile and Brandon was home, so an adventure was calling our name.  We decided to drive to a couple of the other islands that connect to Okinawa by bridge.

Most of these pictures were taken while driving.  The bridge to Miyagi Island.

The vegetation seemed so much thicker and overgrown up here.

View of the tiny roads once you are off the beaten path.  This may look normal, but trust me, it's meant for 1 car, and 1 car only.  Also, notice the mirror?  Those are on most intersections because there aren't any traffic signs.

while we were waiting for our turn on this road construction stop, Brandon was taking silly pictures in the car.

I love that Reagan photo bombed this one!

We stopped a few times along the way to explore.   This was a great beach with no waves and nice sand.

On the way home we stopped at White Beach, which is on the Navy base here.  Reagan was dying to get in, the water is still a bit chilly, but it didn't stop them.

Reagan's Piano recital

Reagan had her first on island piano recital on May 11.  She just started back up taking piano lessons in March, so she hasn't had much time to get back into the swing of things.  She took lessons in Charleston for about a year before we moved, but the waiting list here took several months before we were called for a spot.   Anyway, she did great!  Unfortunately Brandon was in the states and not able to see her performance, so I video taped it for him.  I tried to include it, but it wouldn't upload.

This is Reagan and her piano teacher, Miss Hiromi.
